This shows us that God works in us the way He sees fit, not the way we do. This is something like an earthly parent who wants the best for their child. The parent will make their child work, like volunteering or chores, to understand responsibility, the value of money, the benefits or hard work, etc. Once the child has proven they can handle more responsibility, the child will then be rewarded. This is how God works in Christians; His children. Although situations may not be pleasurable to us, God knows they are necessary.
20Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant,
21Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
These are the time periods where we are supposed to lean on God more and more. Think about how many times you or someone you know as a child received a new responsibility (a car, able to work after school, a pet, etc.). Along with that, think about how many times someone has received a new responsibility and ruined or neglected it. Think about a time God may have given you new responsibility and you ruined it…
Often times a child will not receive more privileges and responsibility if they have not shown they can handle the responsibilities they currently have. Why should you be able to use the car of you won’t take out the garbage? Why should your curfew be extended if you won’t even wash the dishes? While we are praying for God to make some changes in our lives we must also continuously search ourselves to see if we are ready for new challenges. How can we balance new relationships if we can’t handle the ones we have now? How can we deal with a higher position if we do not show competence in the one we have now?
Romans 8:32 (KJV) tells us:
32He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
We know that God loves us and can give whatever He wants when He wants. However, He wants to be ready for the new responsibilities that come with new blessings. Bottom line: If you have asked God for something make sure that you can handle it! Follow the commandments you know God has for your life! Study your Bible and pray to God often! Strive to know Him more and more everyday!
