Serious Business

I was in a popular bookstore the other day and saw a board game that blew my mind. The title was, “7 Deadly Sins.” The purpose of this game is to make it from Hell to the earth’s surface first. How do you progress in this game? You guessed it; by committing sins! Depending on what spot you land on, to move on you must commit sins that range from showing your friends how to you would shoplift to seducing the person seated next to you. This is a perfect example of our society today. Sin is celebrated. Everyone does what they want to do. Sin is treated like some kind of game.

The reality is that the issue of sin is very serious business. Sin broke the relationship between God and man and stole our peace and joy. Sin is a cancerous disease that will rot your soul and ruin your life. Sin must be punished by death (Romans 6:23). Simply put; God hates sin. It is no laughing matter.

As in the game I mentioned there are many who mock and treat sin as a game. Proverbs 14:9 (KJV) says:

Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous there is favour.

Foolish here has the connotation of silly, perverse or unwise. Do any of these three words describe you? If you are holding on to sin in your life they do.
