So I
find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies close at hand. For I delight in the law of God, in my inner being, but I see in
my members another
law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of
sin that dwells in my members. Romans 7:21-23 esv

Don’t feel bad. The Apostle Paul, the most spiritual
Christian who ever lived, admitted to still struggling with his sinful nature.
Like you and me, he confessed that he had desires that he knew were wrong. Paul
said that even when he wants to do the right thing evil desires prevail. Oh how
we endure the exact same war in our minds and spirits! Then he asks the
question.
Wretched man that I am!
Who will deliver me from this body of death? Romans 7:24 esv
Stuck in your wretched sinful state there is no hope. But
thanks be to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for His salvation work on the
cross. Even though the sin nature still persists you have another nature at
work within; the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of God. Now you can say with Paul
Thanks be to God
through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself serve the law of God with my
mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin. Romans 7:25 esv
I’ve heard the war in our spirits likened to a dogfight.
Whichever one we feed, our new nature or old nature, will thrive and prosper. Which
nature will you let thrive? The
choice is yours.
All of man struggles with their own sin nature.
ReplyDeleteThanks be to God for His grace, mercy and especially His unfailing love, without which, there would be none.
