His Grace-Tuesday Truth

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 2 Corinthians 12:9 esv

God can only show up in your life in the areas that you surrender to Him. We try and try to do it our way. We know the solutions. We have the best ideas. We’ve studied this or that. Somebody gave us their expert opinion and so forth. If we are not careful we can fall into the trap of trying to sustain ourselves because we think we know it all. We need to just step back and say, “OK Lord, do it Your way.”

Take a look at David and Goliath again (1 Samuel 17). What if David had protective armor or more advanced weapons? What if a bigger stronger warrior had fought instead of the boy? The glory may have gone to the person instead of God. However we know in David’s situation it was God and God alone who won the battle.  God wants all the glory and praise for the victories in your life. You may not understand why He wants you to do things a certain way, but just do it any way. He’s setting the stage to perform a miracle in your life!

His Grace-Monday Motivation

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 2 Corinthians 12:9 esv

God may be allowing you to lack something in  certain areas of your life just to show you that He is all you really need! We have our own plans figured out sometimes in such detail. We want our situation to be ideal in order for us to move forward with certain plans. We get scared of failure or embarrassment. We want to trust too much in other things and people for support. God is trying to show us that He should be our only means of support.

Take a look at David when he fought the giant Goliath (1 Samuel 17). When most of us in that situation would have had armor, swords, and any other weapons we could find, David just had his stones and his slingshot. He knew that with the Almighty God on his side those stones were all he needed. There may be a certain area, skill, or quality in your life that you feel is not as strong or impressive as it should be. Don’t let that keep you from accomplishing your goals. Where you feel weak is just a chance for the Lord to step in and make you strong.

A Friend-Friday Freedom

and the Scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”—and he was called a friend of God.
James 2:23 esv

None of us are perfect. We all make mistakes. God knows that. He sees you trying. He sees you not giving up. Even when you may feel like giving up, He sees you still striving. Ignore negativity from other people. Just focus on the fact that Christ sees you. Before time itself He knew all about every struggle that you would face and He has all the answers you need. He knew each and every sin that you would commit, yet He died for you anyway. God loves you and He sees you!

“I don’t know how you can still love me
After all the things that I’ve done wrong
You fulfill my every need
And You let me know that I belong
I’ve wondered many times and brought shame to You
But whenever it seems like I’ve lost my view
You point me in the right direction…” ~ Commissioned

A Friend-Thursday Thought

and the Scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”—and he was called a friend of God.
James 2:23 esv

Who is your best friend? Many of us have people who we grew up with, went to school together, or maybe close family members that we refer to as our best friends. However we know that the Christian’s best friend should be Jesus. Everyone else has to take time to handle their own issues, but Christ always has time for us. There are times when other people just cannot meet our needs, but God is all powerful.

Is Christ your best friend? Everyone, no matter how tough you are, has an innate desire to be loved. God made us that way. We are all born with a need for God’s love, but we slip up and try to satisfy that need with everything else. Sometimes we just feel like no one understands us. But God knew all about us before the earth was even created.

A Friend-Wednesday Word

“And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.” ~John14:16-18 KJV

Jesus promised that the Holy Spirit would indwell all true believers. He knew that we could not make it through this life alone. Through our own strength we cannot live the Christian life effectively. It is simply impossible. But The Lord gives us exactly what we need.

No matter how alone you may feel, a born again believer is never alone. The Holy Spirit is Jesus’ promise to us. He is referred to as a Helper, an Advocate, and a Comforter. He helps us understand scripture and brings scripture back to our memory (John 14:26). He is God’s seal of salvation (Ephesians 1:13-14). Simply stated; He is the Best Friend you could ever have. Thank God for and take advantage of this AWESOME friendship.

A Friend-TuesdayTruth

A man of many companions may come to ruin,
but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

Proverbs 18:24 esv

Not only does God simply have time for us, He is longing to strengthen His relationship with you. If we are not observant we will miss out on opportunities in life. A lack of focus or drive can cause us to miss out on the right person, better job, investment, and so forth. What better opportunity is there in this world than to spend time with The Lord Jesus Christ? He loves us to death, literally, and He wants us to know experience Him intimately and completely.

There are few things that make us feel worse than missing out on a great opportunity. The greater it was, the worse we will feel. Right now the Almighty God wants you to talk to Him more. He has SO MANY things to tell you if you are willing to listen. Jesus is watching you stumble and He is yearning to lead you the right way. Don’t miss out on the greatest investment you can ever make; reaching your full potential in life through giving your life to Christ. Not just accepting Him as Savior; but truly giving your entire life over to Him and making Him your Lord and Master. God wants to restore you, make you stronger, and complete you (only God can complete you). Let Him.

A Friend-Monday Motivation

A man of many companions may come to ruin,
but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

Proverbs 18:24 esv

You are not alone! God is with you right now and He will never leave you. No other friend can be as good as a friend as Jesus. Everyone has to take care of their own issues; going to work, taking care of their families, finding time to rest, and so forth. Even our best friends on this Earth cannot always be there for us. We all need time for ourselves.

Christ, however, always has time for us. He is always with us. He is always ready to listen. Even when we feel alone, He is right there with us. Even when we try to do wrong and we want Him to leave; He’s there. If you are a Christian then you truly are never alone. God is right there during every single thing that comes across your path. Walk confidently knowing He is there!

Sovereign-Friday Freedom

Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
1 Peter 5:6 esv

God is Lord of all! He is even Lord of Your life. Not submitting areas of your life to Jesus makes you think you must deal with them yourself. You can’t manage your life; only Christ can do that. Trying to do so leaves you weak, stressed, and confused. Does God have ALL of you? Your level of peace will be your answer.

You have longed for sweet peace,

And for faith to increase,
And have earnestly, fervently prayed;
But you cannot have rest,
Or be perfectly blessed,
Until all on the altar is laid.

Is your all on the altar of sacrifice laid?

Your heart does the Spirit control?
You can only be blessed,
And have peace and sweet rest,

As you yield Him your body and soul.

Sovereign-Thursday Thought

Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
    be acceptable in your sight,
Lord, my rock and my redeemer.

Psalm 19:14 esv

Is Jesus Christ your Lord? When we accept His sacrifice on the Cross He becomes our Savior, but is He your Lord? Lord means, ‘one having power or authority over others.’ With that in mind we know that Christ is Master and Ruler of all. So then the question becomes, "Do YOU recognize Christ as Lord of your entire life?"

We refer to Him as ‘The Lord’ when conversing with others or even in our prayers. But we know that actions always speak louder than words.  At the end of Psalm 139 the psalmist asked God to search his heart and expose the impurities (vv. 23-24). Ask the Holy Spirit to show you what areas of your life are not submitted to Him. You cannot have a real relationship with God until you are real with yourself. Do you recognize Jesus as Lord?

Sovereign-Wednesday Word

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.  Romans 12:1

We are to be living sacrifices for God. Sacrifice means to give up or to offer. We are to give our entire selves as an offering to the Lord. Every step, every thought, every purchase, our bodies, and even our very lives should all be submitted unto Him.

This is our ‘reasonable service.’ This is what we should do. When we try to hold on to or control our own lives we tell God that we can do better with it than He can. God made us. He loves us. Jesus saved us. He knows all about us and He knows our future. Give your life up to the One who knows exactly what to do with it.

Sovereign-Tuesday Truth

For I, the LORD your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, “Fear not, I am the one who helps you. Isaiah 41:13 esv

God will only work with what you give Him. We are called to submit everything to Him, but God gives us free will. The Lord doesn’t make us do anything. In your life He cannot truly be Lord at all until He is Lord of all. To experience the renewed mind and newness of life we must give our whole selves to Him.

It is very easy to surrender most of ourselves to Christ, but hold on to a few ‘little’ things. God doesn’t want most of you, though, He wants it all! As long as you try to hold on to whatever it is you will a sense of disconnect between you and Jesus. He knows what it is and so do you. Nothing is more valuable than knowing Jesus more. Jesus gave His all for you and He just wants the same back.

Sovereign-Monday Motivation

For I, the LORD your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, “Fear not, I am the one who helps you. Isaiah 41:13 esv

God really does have everything under control. When consider the news, the conditions of our churches, and even our own lives that may be a hard concept to believe grasp. However, no matter what we see, God is still in control. He loves us. He is omnipotent. The same God who performed all of those great miracles in the Bible (and in your life) is the same God who is in control right now. He is still the Sovereign God.

Don’t miss out on life looking all around; look up to the Lord. The Lord never promised that life would be easy or that this world would be peaceful. God did promise that He would never leave you or forsake you (Hebrews 13:5). The Lord promised that the Holy Spirit would comfort and live in all Christians (John 14:16). Jesus said that His grace is all that you need and that His strength is made perfect in weakness (2 Cor. 12:9). Look to God and have peace.

Satisfaction-Thursday Thought

“Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.”~Psalm 37:4

What does it mean to delight in the Lord? Psalm 37:4 is quoted by many on many occasions. People stress the importance of delighting in God. People stress how to get your desires fulfilled. But there is a big piece missing to this puzzle. How does one delight in God?

Delight means to have high satisfaction. I’m sure you probably love the Lord, but where does your satisfaction come from in life? Delight just doesn’t mean that you like Jesus a little bit, it implies that you look to Him for EVERYTHING. Take a good look at where you find satisfaction now. Are any of those things greater than God? Can anything besides God give you your heart’s desires?

Satisfaction-Wednesday Word

“Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.”~Psalm 37:4

After we truly learn to trust God, then we can experience delight in Him. Delight means a high level of satisfaction. We search and search for ways to have our desires fulfilled. People write self improvement books. We buy elaborate things. We try and try to find someone, something, anything that will come close to satisfying us. God has already given us the key.

When you find satisfaction in Christ, then He will give you everything you long for. Why? Because your desire will be for Him. A heart for God will result in only wanting the right things; the things God has for you. Therefore when you seek His plans He will give you exactly what you want; more of Him. It is possible to have your every desire met. But you have to have a heart after God. You must seek to know Him and His Word.

Satisfaction-Tuesday Truth

Delight yourself in the Lord,
and he will give you the desires of your heart

Psalm 37:4 esv

A life apart from God is no life at all. Think about it. There are many things that can give us satisfaction. No matter what it is though, it will diminish at some point. That is why so many people get caught up in chasing more and more material things. The more they get the more they want. And this just leaves people with a void inside. Using something outside of its intended purpose usually ends up in failure.

A life in the Spirit is the fullest life possible. In the Holy Spirit we have leadership and direction in life. Christians have One who will teach them what the Scriptures mean. We have a Friend who has promised to never leave us. It is easy to become a Christian, but being a true disciple requires labor. The product is worth the work, though. A life dedicated to Christ will always yield peace, real love, and true satisfaction.

Affliction-Friday Freedom

Before I was afflicted I went astray,
but now I keep your word.

Psalm 119:67 ESV

Parents discipline children so those children will be successful later in life. Usually it is not difficult to identify an adult who was an undisciplined child. The Father is grooming you for something greater than where you are now. Every trial has a purpose. Every opened door has a meaning. Even every closed door was for your good. All the pain will benefit you in some way. Children of God remember that your Father disciplines you because He loves you. He’s preparing you. He’s maturing you.

“He's preparing me for something
I cannot handle right now
He's making me ready
Just because He cares
He's providing me with what I'll need
To carry out the next matter in my life

Preparing me
He cares for me
Preparing me
For everything
That comes in my life

He is preparing
God is preparing me”

Affliction-Thursday Thought

Whoever loves instruction loves knowledge, But he who hates correction is stupid.
Proverbs 12:1 NKJV

What areas of your life do you need more discipline in? I’m sure we all have areas in life that we excel in. Every person has their strong points. But we all know that no one is perfect. It is possible to stay so focused on where we shine that we end up ignoring where we need improvement. A person with that kind of attitude will never reach their full potential in Christ.

God wants to be Lord of your entire life! He deserves to be as well. Of course we will always have parts of our lives that we may handle better than others, but we still need to submit every part of our lives to the Lord. Increased discipline in your life will increase your devotion to the Lord; resulting in a closer walk with Christ.

Affliction-Wednesday Word

Whoever loves instruction loves knowledge, But he who hates correction is stupid.
Proverbs 12:1 NKJV

When we think of discipline we usually think of punishment. However discipline can also refer to order and instruction. Punishment can be a part of discipline when we get off track. With that in mind discipline, especially the Lord’s, is actually a good thing. Without any order our lives would be a catastrophe.

Are you stupid? Of course not. Then you should be clinging to God’s ways. Every principle, every verse, every precept should be your guide in life. Getting in line with God’s discipline will involve some correction and punishment, but it is far worse than the alternative, living outside of God's will. God’s correction is for your good. Don’t get upset by it. Accept it. Understand its purpose. Thank God for keeping you on the path to spiritual success.

Affliction-Tuesday Truth

Before I was afflicted I went astray,
but now I keep your word.

Psalm 119:67 ESV

Similar situations may be a sign that God is trying to work a certain issue out of you. When someone performs poorly in a grade or in a class, what happens? They must repeat that class. They may have even attended class from beginning to end, but the performance was not good enough. Anyone who has had an experience such as this knows how annoying it is. The bottom line is when we go through the experience again, something must be done differently to reach success.

If you feel stuck in the same old place, you may need to do some evaluation. God may be trying to show you something. Schools don’t let failing students advance because they know they will not be successful. A student can not do Algebra until they learn Addition and Subtraction.  Take a good look at yourself and see what you need to do differently.
