Every Lesson

Every lesson you taught me was a seed
Preparation for who God called me to be
As the fruit begins to show
We love you more than you’ll ever know!

Fear Not-Friday Freedom

And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.
Luke 2:8-10 ESV

God thank You for sending Jesus to the world. Thank You for the greatest gift if all, being reconciled to You! Help us during this season to put our focus back to You and the birth of Jesus Christ.

AMEN

The birth of Christ is good news of great joy. Do you believe that? Do you celebrate CHRISTmas with great joy in Christ?

Fear Not-Wednesday Word

Could you imagine being in the middle of your daily routine and a myriad of angels appear seemingly out of nowhere? I would be fearful too. Yet, although the heavenly presence was awesome,  the shepherds had nothing to fear and neither do we. The angels coming to the shepherds represent Heaven coming down to Earth. None of us went looking for Christ. He seeks us. Just the angels appeared to the shepherds right in the middle of their daily lives Christ comes to us. What a miracle!

Notice that the angel came to the men in their everyday occupations. Christ meets us right where we are to give exactly what we need!

God chose to announce Christ's birth to shepherds. In that day shepherds were lowly and disrespected. Yet this is who God chose to seek out early to proclaim Christ's birth, not kings or people in high places. God seeks the lowly. You don't have to do anything special to receive His love. Just accept it!

Messy Messiah-Friday Freedom

He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand
Psalm 40:2 ESV

Lord thank You for coming to save me. Thank You for getting down in my mess and continuing to do so! You came to save sinners like me. You came to lift me out of my brokenness. You love me that much. Help me during this Christmas season to keep my focus on Your love and sacrifice and let love and obedience flow from my heart!

AMEN

Messy Messiah-Thursday Thought

For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.
Luke 19:10 ESV

Jesus came to get down and dirty. He did not come to save perfect people. He came to save people who needed a Savior. Do you need a Savior?

Messy Messiah-Wednesday Word

For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.
Luke 19:10 ESV

Shootings here in the U.S. Terrorists attacks here and abroad. The list goes on and on. Is there any hope for this world? What can we do about it? While this world is getting worse and worse we have hope in Jesus Christ. Why? Because He chose to enter into this broken and messed up world to offer freedom from sin and death. This world is rapidly decaying, but thank God that in Christ there is hope for the next life!

Messy Messiah-Tuesday Truth

And David was the father of Solomon by the wife of Uriah
Matthew 1:6 ESV

You remember David? The King who committed adultery, then plotted a murder to cover up his sin? Yes he is an ancestor of Jesus. God used the brokenness of these relationships in the line of Christ. Through the messiness and brokenness of this world Christ came. Christ meets you in your brokenness too.

Messy Messiah-Monday Motivation

The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
Abraham was the father of Isaac, and Isaac the father of Jacob, and Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers,
Matthew 1:1, 2 ESV

Image result for sinners

God used people who were doubters of Him, polygamists, liars, cheaters, and worse to create the nation of Israel. This is the backdrop God used to develop the nation that would usher Christ in the world. He used their mess and mistakes for good. He will use yours too!

Commitment- Friday Freedom

And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed Genesis 12: 2, 3 ESV

Lord Jesus show me how to trust You. Right now I feel You leading me somewhere that I don't understand. You are telling me to do something that seems impossible and it is hard for me to trust You. Remind me, Holy Spirit, that if you can give a son to Abraham and Sarah in their barrenness, then You can do amazing things in my life too! Help me look past what I see and look to You with with eyes of faith!

AMEN

Commitment-Thursday Thought

And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed Genesis 12: 2, 3 ESV

God vowed to bless Abraham beyond anything his mind could conceive. An old man with no children becoming the father of many nations? Abraham had already decided to choose one of his servants as his heir. Yet it happened partly because Abraham displayed faith. Do you trust God, for real? Believe that He can bless you in a way that seems absolutely impossible right now.

Do you believe God is an all powerful God?

Commitment-Wednesday Word

So Abram went, as the Lord had told him...
Genesis 12:4 ESV

The day many fans never wanted to see has finally come. Kobe Bryant has announced his retirement. In his prime his dedication to excellence in basketball was unparalleled. Other players, even opposing ones, have said he is the hardest worker they have ever worked with. However 14 hour practices, ridiculously strict diets, watching films of himself for hours, and all day workouts couldn't stop the inevitable. As he grows older, although his desire and commitment remains, he is unable to keep up with the physical demands of the game.

Our God is different. He is continually committed to you and He has the power to fulfill all of His promises.

God never deteriorates.

God never gets worn out.

God will never retire.

You can trust Him! He is committed to His children.

God did not give Abraham a contract where if he faltered God would give up on him. God covenanted with Abraham. Abraham messed up many times. The worse times may be allowing his wife to be taken away from him twice and committing adultery. Yet when he slipped God stood firm. When you stumble God stands firm! Trust Him.

God made a promise to stay committed to Abraham. God called him to great acts of faith, but with that call God gave the ultimate assurance, His commitment. God never promised Abraham easy street, but He did vow to be with him along the way. God stays committed to His children. Have faith. God will stay committed to you.

Promises-Friday Freedom

So Abram went, as the Lord had told him...
Genesis 12:4 ESV

God give me the strength of Abraham. Help me to follow You in FAITH. It's hard to trust You sometimes because You normally don't tell me what is in store ahead. But I know You love me and I know You have greater blessings in store for my life. Give me strength, Holy Spirit, to overcome fear and follow You in faith.

I trust You Lord Jesus! AMEN

So Abram went, as the Lord had told him...
Genesis 12:4 ESV

Abraham's bold faith unlocked God's many blessings to rain down on his life. Blessings that positively impacted his son, grandson, and eventually the whole world through Christ! Are you blocking God's blessings for your life? Why?
Just GO!

Promises-Wednesday Word

So Abram went, as the Lord had told him...
Genesis 12:4 ESV

We are in that season again. Preparing for another presidential election next year. Regardless of what party you favor you have to admit that all candidates have one thing in common...promises! To get elected a candidate will tell the people what they want to hear, sometimes with no plans of fulfilling the promise at all. Many political candidates say whatever is good at the moment to get more people to follow them. Often they promise to do things that are totally outlandish and may even be impossible. All they care about is votes. It is an act of manipulation. God works in the opposite fashion though. He makes HUMONGOUS promises and He wants you to follow Him, BUT... He ALWAYS comes through on His Word! If God said it, then you can believe it. Take Him at His Word. Just GO!

Promises-Tuesday Truth

So Abram went, as the Lord had told him...
Genesis 12:4 ESV

Abraham had it all, wealth and prosperity. He was living the good life in a good place at a good old age. In the middle of his comfort zone God called him to make a drastic move with his wife, many servants, livestock, ad possessions to an uncomfortable and unknown place. Expect God to call you to uncomfortable assignments. This is how He tests and grows our faith. Just GO!

Promises-Monday Motivation

So Abram went, as the Lord had told him...
Genesis 12:4 ESV

God wanted to bless Abraham, previously known as Abram, immensely. Abraham just had to do one thing...GO! God called him to leave his home and everything he knew. God blessed Abraham because of this act of faith. God's directions may not make sense right now, but just GO!

Familty Ties- Friday Freedom

But Joseph said to them, “Do not fear, for am I in the place of God? As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today. So do not fear; I will provide for you and your little ones.” Thus he comforted them and spoke kindly to them.
Genesis 50:19-21 ESV

Lord show me how to trust you in all situations of life. Even when those closest to me hurt me deeply, show me how to cling to You instead of bitterness. Joseph not only said that he forgave his brothers, but it was shown through his actions. Give me the spiritual maturity and emotional health to do the same. Help me forgive in my heart and let it be displayed in how I treat other people, especially family members and close friends who have wronged me. Remind me Jesus of how I do not deserve Your forgiveness, yet You give it freely anyway. Let Christ's love and forgiveness flow through my soul in Jesus name!

AMEN

Familty Ties-Thursday Thought

...Joseph, being seventeen years old, was pasturing the flock with his brothers... And Joseph brought a bad report of them to their father.
Genesis 37:2 ESV

Although his brothers were wrong, in his young age Joseph appears somewhat arrogant and na├»ve. We tend to portray Joseph as innocent, but perhaps not only Jacob's favoritism, bot Joseph's attitude played a part in the dissention between the brothers. It's always easy to point out what someone else did, but what did you do wrong? Introspection is key to reconciliation and healing!

Family Ties-Wednesday Word

Now Israel loved Joseph more than any other of his sons, because he was the son of his old age. And he made him a robe of many colors. But when his brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers, they hated him and could not speak peacefully to him.
Genesis 37:3,4 ESV

Lately Kim and I have been watching a lot of reruns of Family Ties. Most sitcoms of this era are the same. There is some issue that may seem life-altering or devastating, but somehow it always gets solved in 30 minutes or less. Real life is not the same! Hurt and bitterness can linger for years and even generations. Joseph's great-grandfather (Abraham), grandfather (Isaac), and father (Jacob) were all guilty of favoritism amongst their children. This caused bitterness and brokenness that progressed through generations. Yet Joseph chose to set a new standard in his own family and loved his children just the same. Sometimes going after God's best will include doing things differently!

Family Ties-Tuesday Truth

Then Midianite traders passed by. And they drew Joseph up and lifted him out of the pit, and sold him to the Ishmaelites for twenty shekels of silver. They took Joseph to Egypt.
Genesis 37:28 ESV

Joseph's own brothers sold him into slavery. The ones expected to and charged with love and protection betrayed him. Betrayal stings even more when it comes from those closest to you. Yet it happens. Trust in those moments that God is still sovereign. Joseph had dreams from God. God remained faithful to those dreams. Even when family and close friends hurt you God will remain faithful. Trust Him.

Family Ties-Monday Motivation

They saw him from afar, and before he came near to them they conspired against him to kill him. They said to one another, “Here comes this dreamer..."
Genesis 37:18,19 ESV

Years before he was pronounced ruler of the entire country of Egypt Joseph was sold into slavery by his brothers, who wanted to kill him at first. God used this tragic act of hate to ultimately mold Joseph into the man God called him to be. God uses the brokenness in our lives to propel us toward His blessings! Trust Him.

Freedom in Forgiveness-Friday Freedom

As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today.
Genesis 50:20 ESV

"God help me be free. I don't want to be bitter anymore. I want to move on in my mind and in my life. Show me how to forgive those who have hurt me. Show me how to seek reconciliation and professional help if I need to. Jesus let Your love and forgiveness for me seep into and soften my heart. Lord help me FORGIVE AND BE FREE!"

AMEN
